    HP Photosmart 1115

Digital camera owners will be more interested in the HP Photosmart 1115, the little brother of the Photosmart 1315, an Editors' Choice in our issue of November 27, 2001. The stylish charcoal case is attractive, and SmartMedia and CompactFlash slots make it possible to print photos without using your computer. A special insert supports 4- by 6-inch photo paper.

Print performance was excellent for this price class, and speed was average among the entire group of printers, making it faster than some others in its price range. Plain-paper prints were smooth and sharp, with good color, excellent shadow details, and no banding. Photos had excellent color fidelity and negligible dithering or posterization.

The Photosmart 1115 comes with an excellent complement of software, including ACDSee and HP Photo Imaging Software, Photo Printing Software, and Share-to-Web, giving you a full range of tools for photo organization, editing, printing, and sharing via the Web or e-mail. One surprising feature is the calibration procedure; just print the page and it's done. You don't have to decide which pair of lines is most closely aligned; the printer does it all for you automatically.

Better dedicated photo printers are available, but it's difficult to top the combination of price, speed, and print quality in the HP Photosmart 1115.

I owned this printer for several years and it just keeps on running perfectly. It's printers like this, that keep me looking at HP. I know realistically not all HP printers are perfect, but this printer sure keeps me believing in HP products.

We just purchased the HP photosmart 1115 and we are very impressed. This replaced a Epson 820 stylus that ripped the gears out after trying to feed 20 sheets of paper at once. The HP is quiet and smooth and the photo quality is excellent for the 200 buck range. We would highly recommend it to anyone.

Being the former owner of an Epson Stylus 760 printer I have a lot of experience with crappy inkjets. The Epson's inkjets clogged and it had to be replaced. I was looking for a printer that would be able to do great photos and text. Before purchasing this model I considered the Epson C80 and 820 photo printer models. I almost went with a C80 but a Staples salesperson informed me that this HP model was better because it had better ink consumption, resolution and photo capabilities than both Epsons. After having it for a week I must confess that this is a fantastic printer and has lived up to all my expectations. It has good ink economy, prints amazing text and color graphics and comes with photo software. This model is the slowest printer of the photosmart series, but I didn't want to spend the extra $100 for one that was only 20% faster. One small disadvantage compared to the Epson is that the inks smudge a bit if they get wet. It isn't a big deal since I don't plan on hanging printouts outside (the Epson C80 uses cool new Durabrite inks that don't run). The 1115 model has a large paper capacity and separate feeders so you don't have to take out the paper to print envelopes or 4x6 photo paper, which is a great convienence over my previous gravity fed Epson. The model even has a duplex attachment which the Epson doesn't have. I love this printer. It was worth the extra $50 over the Epson many times over. If you want a great all arount printer that can also do a great job with photos and doesn't cost a fortune you can't beat this printer.
