The Toshiba HDDR320E03X ($199.99 list) is one of the new crop of 320GB 2.5-inch (notebook class) external hard drives. Its strengths include Mac- and Windows-compatible backup software, a compact exterior, and a large storage capacity. It has enough space to keep several backups of your notebook or your desktop PC, or backups of all your files, including video, music, and photos.

Bottom Line

Toshiba's new USB drive is capacious and sleek, but aside from that it has little to differentiate it from the others in the 320GB club.

Pros

Compact. Capacious. NTI Shadow software on drive (no CD needed). Windows and Mac compatible software.

Cons

Short USB cable. No USB port protection. Backup software is more file-based than full-recovery-based.
