Audioengine 2

Audioengine 2
AudioEngine 2 : Front AudioEngine 2 : Back AudioEngine 2 : Front and Back

review

Audioengine makes relatively affordable speakers for audiophiles, but the Audioengine 2 represents something of a break: $200 computer speakers for sound snobs. There's no fancy styling, no subwoofer, and no remote control—all you really get is stellar sound. There are a few minor shortcomings in the bargain: The speakers aren't upward angled, so they need to be elevated in order to be truly appreciated, for example. Overall, however, the bass is rich without overshadowing the mid and high frequency ranges, and the speakers can reach high volumes with little or no distortion. Sure, the price is a bit steep for PC speakers with no real extra features, but the audio performance is well worth the price for audiophiles who want to replicate the high-quality listening experience of their home theaters on their PC.

Bottom Line

Audiophiles looking to amp up their PC sound should look no further than the Audioengine 2, but bass buffs should look elsewhere.

Accurate, pristine audio performance. Full-bodied but not overpowering bass. Handles high volumes well. Attractive design.

Cons

Large footprint. Not for those who seek subwoofer rumble. No remote or extra features.
