For most of us, $1,150 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a pair of earphones. I'll admit that it would be irresponsible of me to use my paycheck to buy the new Ultimate Ears UE 11 Pro. I can't really afford a sprawling HDTV, either, and a good one costs at least this much, or more. But since I care a lot more about listening to my beloved music collection in the best listening scenario possible than I do about, say, viewing CSI: Miami in high definition, I think spending over a thousand bucks on earphones is no crazier than coughing up the same amount for a plasma TV. Sure, a jaw-dropping price tag makes the UE 11 Pro—an update to the audiophile favorite, the UE 10 Pro—a highly exclusive choice. But make no mistake: These custom-molded, four-driver earphones are the best in-ear listening option (a lot of) money can buy.

Bottom Line

The Ultimate Ears 11 Pro is a modern music lover's dream, with more low end than its predecessor (the phenomenal, but intentionally flat, UE 10 Pro), a custom fit, and amazing clarity—but it'll cost you.

Pros

Unparalleled audio performance. Excellent passive noise reduction. Custom molded to your ear canal. Comfortable.

Cons

Prohibitively expensive. Earphone cable lacks a shielding layer.
