review

Any way you look at it, the Sanyo PLC-XL50 ($2,500 street) is a remarkably different projector, with most of the differences counting very much in its favor. It doesn't look like most projectors, and its shape defies easy description. Unlike most projectors, its measured brightness is higher than the rated brightness (2,000 lumens) rather than lower. Most of all, calling it an ultra-short-throw projector is an understatement, with the PLC-XL50 throwing its maximum 80-inch diagonal image from just inches away.

The Sanyo PLC-XL50 delivers a high-quality image from such a short distance that you can stand less than a foot in front of the screen without casting shadows.

Incredibly short throw, with 75-inch diagonal image at 3 inches from screen. Bright image. Vibrant colors.

Cons

Big and heavy. Setup takes more work than with most projectors. Maximum 80-inch diagonal image.
