Linksys NAS200

Linksys NAS200
Angle Back Front Size Comparison

review

This network-attached storage device for the home is a bit light on features and has some mildly annoying traits. Yet, because it's equally light on your wallet, it strikes a fair balance between power and price and gives you the basic capabilities you need. But while the Linksys NAS200's performance certainly got my attention, it was for the device's sloth, not its speed, and that ends up restricting its usefulness.

Spec Data
  • Price as Tested: $135.00 Street
  • Wired Network Speed: 10/100
  • Network Medium: Wired

Bottom Line

The Linksys NAS200 is a middling network-attached storage (NAS) device for home use. It can manage most Windows Home Server (WHS) features with third-party help and has decent media-server capabilities. But though its price is nice, it's not nearly as easy to use as Windows Home Server, and its throughput is too slow for movies.

Pros

Great price, good feature set for home users including Web access via FTP, media server and access permissions.

Cons

Slow performance, fixed disk array, not as easy to use as WHS
