HP Photosmart R937

HP Photosmart R937
Front Angle Back Screen Top Right Angle

review

If you're looking for a snapshot camera that stands out from the crowded pack of compact models available these days, check out the Photosmart R937. What really sets this 8-megapixel camera apart is its unusual design. Unlike more traditionally shaped competitors such as the Nikon Coolpix P5000 and the Fuji FinePix F40fd, the R937 looks more like a little personal video player than your typical point-and-shoot camera. Its internal 3X zoom lens and flash are placed smack in the middle of the device's curved face, encouraging photographers to hold it with two hands. As well as helping to reduce camera shake, the two-handed grip makes it easier to operate the controls efficiently. But if you're looking for razor-sharp images, you won't find them here.

Bottom Line

If creative shooting control, optical range, or compactness are your priorities, look elsewhere. But if you want a big touch screen and you value in-camera photo editing, the R937 delivers.

Pros

Big touch-screen display is easy to use. Large selection of in-camera photo effects. Tools for tagging, editing, sharing, and automatically printing images. Extensive help features.

Cons

Unremarkable image quality. Lacks conventional manual controls and a vertical zoom toggle. Bulkier than many pocket-size snapshot cameras.
