review
With the trend in laptops going in the direction of lighter and thinner systems, it's fascinating to see that 10-pound media center laptops are still selling briskly. PC makers are using incentives like high definition, bright screens, and tons of storage capacity as their selling points for these oversize laptops. Toshiba's Qosmio line arguably ranks among the top five in high-definition media centers for its media features and a much-touted 1080p widescreen. Its popularity would be more widespread, too, if it weren't so expensive. At $3,199 (direct), the newest Qosmio, the G45-AV680, gets a much-needed design overhaul, taking cues from the sleek glossy finishes served up by HP and Sony. It's also the first laptop available with an HD DVD-R writable drive. Now you can watch and burn high-definition contenterjust as you can with the Blu-ray laptops.
