Velocity Micro ProMagix (8800 GTS SLI)

Velocity Micro ProMagix (8800 GTS SLI)
Full Set Tower Front Tower Angle

review

The Velocity Micro ProMagix (8800 GTS SLI) ($2,926 direct, $3,295 with 22-inch widescreen LCD monitor) is a powerhouse system at the intersection of two niches—a high-end gaming rig masquerading as a high-end media system. But although it cranks out the numbers, it's not very well-rounded as a multimedia system, and its gaming scores largely aren't up to those of the latest contenders.

Bottom Line

The Velocity Micro ProMagix (8800 GTS SLI) overshoots the level of standard multimedia systems and lands in high-end gaming territory. It's a system for those who want a lot of power but are unwilling to go to the $5K club to get it.

Pros

Gaming-class performance from overclocked quad-core CPU and twin SLI graphics cards. Nicely put together. 12-month Norton AntiVirus subscription.

Cons

Dual graphics and overclocking add complexity and cost. Configuration overshoots the mark by a bit.
