The Systemax Venture E21 ($499 direct) is a powerhouse that won't break the bank. Inside its utilitarian-looking case are a powerful dual-core processor, 2GB of memory, multimedia-ready components, and room for expansion. If I were in the market for an inexpensive system to "hot-rod," this would be it.

Bottom Line

The Systemax Venture E21 is a system for the tinkerer. It could be a base for a good gaming system, a multimedia hound's first "real" PC, or a good system to "soup up."

Pros

Very good to excellent performance in the $500 space. 2GB SDRAM. Vista Premium. No bloatware. One-year antivirus subscription included.

Cons

Utilitarian looks. Integrated graphics (needs discrete 3D graphics to be a real player). Short on USB ports for external expansion.
