review
A quality, single-card gaming rig such as the latest Gateway FX530XT ($4,549 direct; $4,759 with 24-inch widescreen LCD monitor) can still hold its own in what's quickly becoming a dual-card universe. Frequent readers should be familiar with Gateway's FX530XT series, as I've reviewed several of its systems in the past. Gateway aims these systems at its high-end customers, the ones who clamor for new technology. This time, both the quad-core CPU and the nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card are overclocked, and a Blu-ray BD-RAM drive is thrown in for good measure. The FX530XT delivers, especially on the performance end. Its quad-core processor and single graphics card pump out numbers seen only on dual-card systems until recently. This is a system for the gamer, high-end multimedia user, and all-around new tech fanatic. Only its inability to support an SLI graphics configuration hold it back.
