review
The Gateway DX430X ($1,344 direct, $1,454 with 19-inch widescreen LCD monitor) replaces the previous DX product line. It stakes a solid claim in the land of mainstream computing, but encroaches on high-end territory in the process. Gateway's previous DX420 and DX210 PCs ranged from less expensive mainstream PCs priced around $700 to more capable multimedia rigs for around $1,500. The new DX430 series comes in as Gateway's more affordable offering, because the budget space is now (Gateway-owned) eMachines' turf. The DX430X seen here is a high-power system for the power user. You could call this the $4,000 system from a year ago, with a $2,500 discount.
