When an iPod speaker dock costs $350, the consumer should expect something pretty spectacular. It should sound awesome, look nice, be easy to operate, and hopefully have some cool extra features. How does Altec Lansing's new iMV712 measure up? Well, it sounds decent, looks interesting, and is definitely easy to use. The major selling point of this iPod speaker system, though, is its distinctive 8.5-inch widescreen display. The screen, which sits between the speakers, is designed for viewing iPod content, or videos from external devices like camcorders (via the Aux input). Despite the nifty screen, the iMV712 isn't all that impressive. The subwoofer lacks the rumble you'd expect for this price range, and its stereo speakers produce a slightly tinny sound.
