LG LN740

LG LN740
Street Maps With Case Full Set

review

LG Electronics, a company probably best known for its mobile phones, flat-panel displays, and high-end home appliances, previewed a new line of portable navigation devices (PNDs) at CES in January. I was lucky enough to check out the company's current top-of-the-line GPS model, the LN740. I'm glad I did, since I found it to be chock-full of features and relatively affordable.

Bottom Line

Chances are you didn't know that LG makes GPS devices, but if live traffic updates are important to you, the combination of a built-in TMC receiver, a big 4-inch screen, and text-to-speech conversion makes the LG LN740 a nice value.

Pros

Large 4-inch screen. Supports text-to-speech conversion in three languages. Built-in traffic receiver. Able to do multisegment routing. Estimated 6-hour battery life.

Cons

No audible turn indicator. POI menu awkward to maneuver. Map view doesn't display speed. Separate TMC antenna makes for a messy-looking dashboard.
