Adobe Soundbooth CS3

review

Adobe Creative Suite (CS)Adobe Soundbooth (available as a standalone product or as part of Adobe Creative Suite 3) offers a good blend of audio recording and video-centric editing features and usability. Its new AutoScore feature, however, is seriously inferior to other products already available. If you're familiar with Audition, Soundtrack's predecessor in the Adobe Creative Suite, you'll miss the multitrack interface and grumble about other mostly minor differences. Still, Soundbooth meets the needs of most video producers, and it's available for both Mac and Windows computers. Those who need more should still be able to get Audition, which continues to be available, but not as a part of CS3.

Bottom Line

Adobe's new Soundbooth audio-editing tool for video is a decent addition to its CS3 Production Premium suite, but there are better standalone tools out there.

Pros

Visual, task-oriented workflow. Excellent Auto Heal function. Good noise-reduction and compression functions.

Cons

Single track only. Lacks preview tools for noise reduction. AutoScore feature is weak.
