eMachines T3612

eMachines T3612
Full Set Angle Keyboard and Mouse

review

The eMachines T3612 ($400 direct) sits at the bottom of eMachines' desktop PC line. Even though you might be able to get rebates that make the system seem like an even better bargain, this is certainly a case where you get what you pay for. There are bright points, such as the dual-layer DVD burner, but the T3612 represents the most basic of computing platforms.

Bottom Line

The dirt-cheap eMachines T3612 can handle basic Web-surfing and word processing fine, but it's built on rapidly aging technology that will need replacement within a year or two.

Pros

Inexpensive PC (only $400) with dual-layer DVD burner. Just about as fast as its $450 brother.

Cons

Single-core budget Celeron processor. Higher clock speed than its brethren, yet not faster. Lacks multimedia card reader. Only 512MB of memory. Vista Basic. Only 90-day Internet Security software subscription. Upgrading the system requires breaking the warranty seal. Ball mouse.
