Sony VAIO VGF-WA1 Digital Music Streamer

Sony VAIO WA1 Music Streamer
With Accessories Above Angle Front

review

Sony announced the VAIO VGF-WA1 Digital Music Streamer at CES 2007, and I've been eagerly awaiting its arrival on my desk ever since. The WA1 wirelessly streams audio from your computer, via either the provided USB wireless adapter or your own wireless network. With built-in flash memory (albeit only 128MB), you can download songs you're streaming to the device for play when the computer's out of range. There's also an aux-in and access to Live365.com's Internet radio channels. The main selling point is the device's wireless streaming function, but with the additional ability to plug in your Apple iPod, store songs in the internal memory, and wake to a musical alarm, the WA1 is way more versatile than it has to be. And hey, it sounds pretty good, too.

Bottom Line

The Sony VAIO VGF-WA1 Digital Music Streamer gets your music off your PC into your kitchen, backyard, or even the beach—wirelessly. Its limited remote and slow transfer speeds tarnish what would otherwise have been an amazing product.

Pros

Streams music from PC. Comes with wireless adapter. Sounds good. Nice design. Internet radio access. Internal flash memory storage.

Cons

Slow file transfer to internal memory. Remote low on options. Web radio doesn't give artist info.
