When Samsung set out to design the CLP-300N, this must have seemed like a good idea: Build a personal color laser printer and price it accordingly, at $300 (street). Make sure it's light enough that one person can move it easily and small enough not to take up much more room on a desktop than a personal monochrome laser or a typical ink jetwhich is what it would probably be replacing. Then add a network connector so that you can share it on a small-office or home network.
