Yogi Berra, known almost as much for his reputed quotations as for his fame as a Yankee player/manager, once said, "It's like déjà vu all over again." That's exactly what I felt like saying when I first booted up the Novogo S700 GPS. The interface seemed so familiar that I was certain I'd seen it in another product. Indeed, cruising through my archive of screen shots, I discovered that another device I'd reviewed, the Mio Digiwalker H610, was based on the same iGO software from NavNGo that powers the Novogo S700.

Bottom Line

The Novogo is a fairly full-featured GPS from a company that you probably haven't heard about. If you can find it at a good price and you're not looking for something fancy, this basic device might be worth considering.

Pros

Large POI database. Sensitive GPS receiver; auto zoom/auto volume. Comes with U.S. and Canadian maps. Multisegment routes supported.

Cons

Lacks text-to-speech conversion. Bluetooth phone interface not functioning in my review unit. Limited distribution.
