HP cameras try their damnedest to help consumers by offering robust menus with plenty of advice for novices. The company's new 7.2 megapixel Photosmart R837 continues in this noble tradition. Even so, I was disappointed by the performance and quality of this affordable, compact shooter.

Bottom Line

This easy-to-use ultracompact is extremely affordable, but has some issues with performance and quality.

Pros

Very low price for an ultracompact camera. Nice design. Easy to use. Good help features.

Cons

Some shutter lag. Not enough manual controls. Blew out some highlights in daylight shots.
