ASUS W5fe SideShow

Asus W5fe SideShow
Front Angle Optical Reader

review

SideShow is one of the most intriguing features found in Microsoft Windows Vista because it lets any laptop manufacturer add a secondary display (ideally on the lid) for you to get quick access to your e-mail, photos, calendar information, and music files. And that's just scratching the surface. A year ago, the ASUS W5fe ($2,200 street)—an ultraportable—was deeply ingrained in everyone's head when it debuted at a Microsoft event. It was officially announced at CES 2007 in Las Vegas. Now it's time for some hands-on testing (with the same system Microsoft demonstrated at CES).

The ASUS W5fe SideShow is an ultraportable with a full-color, 2.8-inch SideShow display on the front cover, with a gorgeous 12.1-inch widescreen on the opposing side.

Pros

Long-awaited SideShow display. Two bright screens. Laptop runs cool. Good performance. Big hard drive.

Cons

Lack of downloadable gadgets. No video support. Some glitches with the SideShow display. Small battery (three-cell).
