The ViewSonic PJ258D ViewDock ($1,000 street) is a perfectly good choice for a projector to connect to a computer to show presentations, or to a DVD player to watch movies. But that's not what's new and exciting about it. Nor is it that it's built around a DLP engine with a native XGA (1,024-by-768) resolution and projects a reasonably high-quality image from both computer and standard video signals. What makes the ViewDock different, if not unique, is the iPod dock on top.

Bottom Line

Pros

iPod dock for projecting video stored on Apple iPod. Also charges iPod. Good contrast ratio.

Cons

Poor audio quality. Extremely obvious rainbow effect from DLP chip.
