Gateway FX530XT (Vista)

Gateway FX530XT (Vista)

review

Gateway's FX530XT (Vista) ($4,120 direct, $4,500 with 24-inch widescreen LCD monitor) is the latest in from Gateway's high-end gaming and multimedia powerhouse line. I've said that these gaming systems far and away have the technology to support the next generation of applications and operating systems, and the FX530XT is no exception. The FX530XT is a blazing performer that should satisfy all but the most jaded (and well heeled) gearheads. It competes with high-end systems from Dell, Falcon Northwest, Velocity Micro, and Voodoo PC. It keeps up with these pricey performance systems, yet still (with display) list for just under $5,000. Oh yeah, and now it's available with Windows Vista.

Bottom Line

Gateway delivers an overclocked quad core gaming box with Vista. In the tradition of "kitchen sink", gaming PCs the Gateway FX530 has a lot of features that will put a dent in your new PC laundry list.

Pros

High end graphics. Quad core power. 4GB system memory. Hefty graphics card brackets. TV tuner. Fans quick to react, quiet when idle. Wireless mouse and keyboard. Overclocked without using esoteric cooling methods.

Cons

Vista isn't ready for gaming (stay tuned for drivers). Gateway's displays top out at 24 inches. No Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. External CrossFire dongle.
