HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7690n PC

HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7690n PC
Full Set Tower Angle Monitor Angle

review

The HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7690n ($1,650 direct, $2,080 with 22-inch widescreen LCD monitor) is the latest high-end multimedia desktop from one of the innovators of the Media Center PC. It is a prime choice for the multimedia enthusiast who wants a powerful system with enough horsepower to edit and encode video, use Media Center to the fullest, and even play the latest HD DVD movie discs. The m7690n is a tower desktop PC and is unapologetic about it. It's aimed at serious videophiles with an extensive digital video collection who don't want an $8,000 gaming rig or an A/V-oriented digital entertainment system.

The first HD DVD tower desktop from HP brings crisp multimedia playback to an already competent multimedia system. All you need is Windows Vista and you'll have all the buzzworthy tech in your hands.

Pros

HD DVD adds high-quality video playback. HP Personal Media Drive bay. Internal 500GB drive. Ready for Vista. HD DVD playback menu option in MCE.

Cons

HD DVD is playback-only and is still early tech. Needs an HDCP-compliant monitor to view HD DVDs in high-def. Not much expansion room. Could be quieter. Only 60-day Internet security subscription.
