Sony Noise Canceling Walkman NW-S705F

Sony Noise Canceling Walkman NW-S705F
With Earphones Side Front

review

Sony has been trying very hard to innovate these days, and this effort is clearly evident in its Walkman line of MP3 players. The company's latest addition is the Sony Noise Canceling Walkman NW-S705F. As the name implies, the included in-ear headphones on this model have a distinctive active noise-canceling feature. But unlike other noise-canceling headphones, they're powered by the player's battery rather than by a separate power source. This is a great concept and the implementation is pretty good, although I'm not terribly impressed by the player's controls and software integration.

Bottom Line

The NW-S705F's active noise cancellation works well, and battery life is excellent, but player's biggest drawback for many will be the lack of Windows Media DRM support, while for others it'll be the price.

Pros

Good active noise cancellation. Good sound quality. Compact player and earbuds. Excellent battery life. Very good included earbuds.

Cons

Expensive for a 2GB player. No larger models. Somewhat awkward controls. Only DRM support is for Sony Connect music store. Requires somewhat clunky Sony SonicStage software.
