Gateway's spiffy new FX530XT is a testament to the rapid pace at which technology changes. Gateway is shipping it with an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor running at 3.20 GHz, which is over half a gigahertz faster than Intel's official rating of 2.66 GHz. This wouldn't be unusual for a system from the boutique gaming companies that ship exotic liquid-cooling solutions, but it's a first from a mainstream PC vendor. And the FX530 manages this using standard BTX air cooling.

Bottom Line

Gateway adds some new cosmetics and an overclocked Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor. Offering the latest ATI graphics hardware, the FX530 manages to deliver all this at the same price as the earlier FX510.

Pros

Intel quad-core CPU (overclocked to 3.20 GHz). Latest ATI CrossFire graphics hardware. Good price/performance for a high-end system. TV tuner and X-Fi sound card round out the multimedia goodness.

Cons

It's just a new paint job on the same case. No Gateway high-end monitor available. CrossFire graphics solution still somewhat immature.
