ATO iSee 360i

ATO iSee 360i
Front Screen Back With iPod Angle

review

The ATO iSee 360i was introduced at CES 2006 as a revolutionary iPod accessory that essentially turns your iPod into a portable digital video recorder—even models that aren't video-capable on their own. Not all models are supported, however. Instead, you're limited to 20GB fourth-generation and 30GB fifth-gen models, as well as the iPod mini and nano (with optional $20 adapter). Since the device does not pick up digital video copy protection (including Macrovision), don't even try to use the iSee to record and distribute copyrighted material. One of the iSee's biggest limitations is that it works only with Microsoft Windows–formatted iPods, since the included Windows-only software is required for prepping your iPod for use with the iSee.

Bottom Line

The iSee 360i turns your iPod into a portable digital video recorder. It's definitely easy to use but I'd rather spend the money on the far more satisfying Archos 604 (with the optional docking station that allows for video recording).

Pros

Adds a bigger screen to your iPod. Lets you record video to non-video-capable iPods. Lets you transfer video and photos to monochrome iPods for viewing on iSee. Video recording is easy to initiate.

Cons

Recording requires docking station. Works only with some iPod models (and requires $20 adapter for iPod nano and mini). Works only with Windows-formatted iPods. No built-in speaker.
