Voodoo Envy u:909

Voodoo Envy u:909
Angle Front Keyboard

review

Getting your game on isn't just about the graphics card anymore. The Voodoo Envy u:909 ($5,412 direct) is a new breed of laptop that submerges you into the game with a whopping 19 inches of screen space. I've already seen screens reach the 20-inch plateau. Just check out the Dell XPS M2010 and the Acer Aspire 9805WKHi—desktop replacements that are so heavy, it hurts. Clearly, these laptop wannabes are home theater systems first. On the other hand, the u:909 is an all-out gaming system, equipped with a graphics card that will put those of the Dell and Acer units to shame. But in terms of overall performance, it lags behind that of notebooks with the Intel Core Duo processors.

Bottom Line

Once you behold the Voodoo Envy u:909, gaming on a 19-inch screen will never be the same. In terms of overall performance, however, you can probably find something better elsewhere.

Pros

19 inches of viewing heaven. Fiery paint job. Supreme gaming performance.

Cons

15 pounds of inevitable back pain. Hefty price tag. Overall performance not as good as notebooks with the Intel Core Duo processors.
