Bose QuietComfort 3

Bose QuietComfort 3
Close Up Full Set Size Comparison

review

Bose is certainly on top of the noise-canceling headphone market. Its QuietComfort 2 headset was a runaway success, even at the hefty price of $299 (list). With the release of the Bose QuietComfort 3 (QC3), the company appears to be testing the limits of what consumers will spend for a little peace and quiet. Significantly smaller than its predecessor, the QuietComfort 3 seems like it wouldn't be able to cut out as much noise, but like the Sennheiser PXC-250, it exceeds expectations. The QuietComfort 3 does offer a few advantages—and a few trade-offs—but at $349, this simply isn't a must-have upgrade.

Bottom Line

The Bose QuietComfort 3 headphones are better than most noise-canceling models, but I still prefer the QuietComfort 2. The QC3's are very comfortable, and they provide good sound and very good noise cancellation; they make ears happy, but you pay through the nose.

Pros

Very good noise canceling. Small form factor. 20-hour rechargeable battery. Good sound quality. Very comfortable.

Cons

Doesn't work unless switched on and battery has power. Ear pads will make your ears sweat. Case is nearly as bulky as that of the QC2. Expensive.
