Ultrasone PROline 650

Ultrasone PROline 650

review

The Ultrasone PROline 650 ($299 list) is a very-high-end set of closed-back circumaural headphones. They're meant for studio monitoring, but they'll stand up pretty well in any critical listening environment. You also get an audio CD with some very well-recorded music and good documentation outlining the special features and health benefits of Ultrasone's headphones, which include "natural" surround sound and shielding against magnetic radiation (so you can put away that aluminum-foil hat you've been wearing).

Bottom Line

These are more suitable for monitoring recordings and for serious health nuts who are interested in reducing the amount of radiation being pumped directly into their heads. For regular high-end home listening, I prefer the Sennheiser HD650.

Pros

Very good passive noise blocking. Very good sound quality, especially the highs.

Cons

They can get a bit sweaty after long listening periods. Midrange sounds a bit distant.
