review

The Top Global 3G Phoebus MB6000 mobile router certainly stands out. The black pyramid (also available in silver and white) turned heads while sitting on the PC Magazine Labs test bench. Compared with the boxy, boring computer hardware we're all used to, this is one fly gadget—but it may not fly with those who travel a lot. The router has "portable" written all over it, but the shape makes it hard to pack. The design choice is poor on another count: You often need to pile up network equipment—boxy and boring stacks and packs; pyramids don't.

Bottom Line

The Top Global mobile router is extremely easy to use. The pyramid shape doesn't stack and is a hassle in your luggage, though.

Pros

Works with all current flavors of high-speed mobile networks.

Cons

Pyramid shape is bulky. Wi-Fi performance is subpar.
