You won't find many color laser all-in-one printers (AIOs) that are intended specifically for smaller offices and cost $1,000 or less. We can recommend fewer still, wholeheartedly. The Brother MFC-9420CN ($800 street) is one of the few. It has the right combination of speed, output quality, and features to earn a place on your short list—despite a problem that unexpectedly slowed it when printing monochrome text files in our tests.

Actual monochrome print speed is a bit slower than we'd expect from the rated speed.
