JVC positions the KD-AVX1 as an in-dash, DVD-playing car radio replacement. Right. As if you'd be happy moving from a 50-inch HDTV at home to a 3-inch TFT in the car. But because the KD-AVX1 also plays MP3s and WMAs, you can burn 80 CDs' worth of music—as much as, say, the iPod mini holds—onto a single DVD-R. And the display provides a dandy tool for navigating music folders.

Since the KD-AVX1 is dual-zone and has multiple A/V input/outputs, you can use it to send DVD output to backseat LCD monitors (the kids listen on headphones) while you have music playing in the front of the car: either AM/FM or Sirius Satellite Radio from the $100 tuner add-on. A front-seat passenger could even grab a feed from the kids' backseat DVD.
