    Altec Lansing inMotion iM4

The Altec Lansing inMotion iM4 extends the company's popular inMotion line of iPod-compatible speakers to other types of portable music devices, including notebook computers. At 5.5 by 10 by 1 inches, the iM4 is a lot bigger than an iPod, but it can pump out 92 dB at 12 inches—about as loud as a blender—and produce spacious, surprisingly realistic sound from 150 Hz through 12 kHz. That's nearly an octave more than last year's pricier inMotion iM3. The iM4 also boasts twin input jacks, dual AC/battery operation, a nifty spring-loaded retractable audio cable, and Waves Audio's MaxxBass low-end enhancement technology. At $50 less than the iM3, it delivers a lot of bang for the buck.
