Ink-jet technology is so dominant in small-office color AIOs that the number of laser-based units we've covered in the past year can be counted on the thumb of one hand. With the Xerox WorkCentre C2424DN ($2,999 direct), that number just doubled—at least if you define a color laser to include solid-ink technology, with speed and quality comparable to lasers.

Bottom Line

The Xerox WorkCentre C2424DN is one of the few laser-class color AIOs available, and the first in its price and performance category. It can't fax, but it can scan over a network, and it functions as a standalone copier. Speed is a little slow in default mode, but output quality is impressive.

Pros

Color laser-class AIO. High-quality output. Scans across a network. Standalone copier. 50-page ADF. Duplex printing. Standard 625-page capacity with 1,675-page maximum.

Cons
