The Fast and the Furious set certainly had a hand in the design of the Monarch Computer Systems Hornet Pro ($3,792 as tested). The fluorescent lime-green case with side stripes, logos, and LED-lit case feet looks as if it belongs on the back of a tricked-out 2000 Honda Civic. It appeals to the same crew: young males who want to show off their gear to their friends, with the muscle to gain bragging rights.

Bottom Line

If you're in the market for a go-fast, go-anywhere LAN-party monster, the Monarch Hornet Pro is a front-runner in a growing field. Though there are less expensive, quieter choices out there, few present themselves with the same verve as the Hornet Pro.

Pros

Paint job makes the system as flashy as a street racer Honda Civic. Small case is transportable to LAN-party events. Easy to service (for a small case). Enough room for full-size double-wide graphics cards. Competitive performance (for a single-graphics card solution).

Cons

Almost $4,000 without monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The 350W power supply may not be enough for the highest-end nVidia graphics cards.
