Systemax Venture H515LCD

Systemax Venture H515LCD

REVIEW

As one of the few $699 desktops we've reviewed with a "full" Pentium 4 processor (as opposed to the value Intel Celeron or AMD Sempron processor) and an AGP expansion slot, the Systemax Venture H515LCD is well suited to the budget user planning on future internal system upgrades. But it lacks a built-in media card reader, DVD writer, and FireWire ports, limiting its usefulness for multimedia tasks.

Bottom Line

With its "full" P4 processors and AGP expansion slot, the Systemax Venture H515LCD is well suited to budget users planning on internally upgrading their systems. But its lack of a built-in media card reader, DVD writer, FireWire ports, and multimedia software limits its usefulness for multimedia tasks.

Pros

Free AGP port allows graphics-card expansion. Decent internal expansion room and extra SATA ports. LCD screen more convenient than CRT. Pentium 4 processor, rather than value Celeron or Sempron. SATA RAID-capable motherboard.

Cons

LCD has relatively slow 30-ms pixel-response rate. CD-RW drive, when others in price category have DVD-writable drives.
