Olympus m:robe 500i

Olympus m:robe 500i

REVIEW

Looking like something you'd buy at a high-end gift shop, the Olympus m:robe 500i has a clean, smoked-chrome frame, with nothing more on the surface than a 1/8-inch jack on the side and a lens on the back. The device is actually a VGA-resolution photo viewer that plays digital audio and takes pictures. Or maybe it's a 20GB music player with photo-viewing and picture-taking capabilities. Either way, this jack-of-all-trades doesn't excel at in one area, but it's handy if you only want to carry one device.

Bottom Line

The stylish m:robe 500i is a 20GB music player and photo viewer with a convenience 1.2MP digital camera. Or is it a portable photo viewer with a camera and convenience music player? Like most multifunction devices, this jack-of-all-trades doesn't excel in any one area.

Pros

Huge 3.7 inch screen is VGA resolution and text is very readable. Camera adjusts well to widely varying light conditions. Audio is exceptionally clean. Stable, good-looking TV output.

Cons

Touch screen is a bit fussy, and doesn't work in TV-out mode. Hard to see in bright sunlight. Pictures are snapshot-quality only.
