ABS Ultimate X6

ABS Ultimate X6

REVIEW

When you're shelling out a significant amount of cash for a gaming system, you'd like to think that you're getting the fastest system your money can buy. Sometimes that isn't always the case. So while the ABS Ultimate X6 ($3,199 as tested) contains the latest and greatest Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor and certainly achieves a respectable level of performance, the system leaves us wanting more. Ultimately, the fault lies with the processor. While the P4 EE adds $450 to the system price (versus, say, a P4 660), it no longer delivers enough extra horsepower to justify the price premium.

Bottom Line

The ABS Ultimate X6 has the latest and greatest Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor, and ABS has done a fine job with this package. But blame the processor: The P4 EE costs about $450 more than the P4 660 but doesn't deliver the class-leading performance you might expect when paying such a premium.

Pros

Solid, easy-to-service case. Plenty of expansion space. Built-in Wi-Fi and eight internal SATA ports. Lots of USB and FireWire ports.

Cons

Outperformed by overclocked non-EE P4 machines. Negligible performance difference from previous P4 EE. CRT instead of an LCD. No media card reader.
