The HP LaserJet 4345x mfp ($3,449 direct) represents a new breed of AIO for a department or large workgroup. Built around a 45-pages-per-minute (ppm) engine with a 200,000-pages-per-month duty cycle, the 4345x does extra duty as a standalone copier, fax machine, and—a new feature—a digital sender, for scanning to e-mail.

Bottom Line

The HP LaserJet 4345x mfp network multifunction printer offers fast print speeds, excellent text, good graphics, good paper handling, and both fax and digital sending functions. But you can't fax from a workstation, and it's all but impossible to use the digital sending function without your own e-mail server.

Pros

Extremely fast. Good paper handling, with 1,100 sheets default input and 2,100 sheets maximum. Standalone fax machine, copier, and digital sender (for scanning to e-mail).

Cons

Digital sender function assumes an e-mail server on the same network. Faxing is from front panel only. Scanning over network requires optional software.
