By most measures, the Canon Selphy DS700 Compact Photo Printer ($199.99 direct) is a typical ink jet-based dedicated photo printer, with the ability to print from PictBridge cameras, memory cards, and a PC. Its claim to fame is that instead of offering a built-in LCD, it can plug into a TV to let you preview your photos and work through the menus at large size. It even comes with a remote control, so you can give the commands from your easy chair.

In addition to printing from a PictBridge camera, memory card, or computer, the Canon Selphy DS700 Compact Photo Printer lets you plug into most TVs to let you view photos on a memory card and choose which ones to print. Print speed and photo quality are more than acceptable.

Pros

Connects to most TVs to let you view and print images from memory cards. Also prints from computers and PictBridge cameras. Output is effectively smudge-proof.

Cons

Direct printing from memory cards offers limited features, especially when not connected to a TV. Print cost is high for a dedicated photo ink jet.
