The TallyGenicom 8008 ($779 direct) is a four-pass color laser rated at 31 pages per minute for monochrome and 8 ppm for color. That puts it at the high end of personal four-pass color lasers both in price and engine speed. And indeed, it was one of the faster choices in the category when it came to our tests. It also earns bragging rights for its excellent text quality. Unfortunately, the printer has its share of flaws as well.

Bottom Line

The Tally T8008 offers excellent text quality and relatively good performance for a four-pass color laser. Unfortunately, its graphics and photo quality are both on the low side for a color laser, and the network-installation routine is well behind the state of the art.

Pros

Reasonably fast for a four-pass color laser. Excellent text quality.

Cons

Below-par graphic and photo quality for a color laser. Outdated, manual network setup requires substantial knowledge of network printers.
