Mid-priced speaker systems have made great strides lately, with products like the Creative I-Trigue 3400 and the Altec Lansing VS4121 delivering pleasant-sounding output that's more than adequate for most types of recreational listening at a price that won't break the bank. Of course, neither can match the crystalline detail and extended frequency response of an audiophile speaker system, and hardcore gamers should look elsewhere for headbanging volume levels and a thundering low end.

Bottom Line

The I-Trigue 3400 is an all-around good-quality speaker system with no major flaws. This moderately priced three-piece offering gets fairly loud, has an acceptable low end, produces a dramatically large soundfield, and has only minor problems with the muddiness and high-end brittleness that plague other systems in its price range.

Pros

Pleasant, spacious sound. Great looks.

Cons

Limited volume levels. No extreme high end. Unexceptional bass.
