Some people age more gracefully than others. That's the case with the Prismiq MediaPlayer, now almost two years old. A sensation when it arrived in mid-2003 (and our initial Editors' Choice in this field), it's still one of the best media hubs, and still nearly unique with its ability to function as a Web browser and online chat device. We've lowered the MediaPlayer's rating from five stars to four because others, particularly the Roku HD1000, have overtaken it, but it's still a fine choice.

Bottom Line

The Prismiq MediaPlayer One was one of the first digital media hubs, and it's still one of the best. It delivers online services in addition to music, photos, and video.

Pros

Web browser and AIM-compatible chat. PC Card slot for 802.11a, b, or g card.

Cons

Web browser quality only so-so. Won't play DRM or lossless WMA audio files.
