Canon PowerShot A85

Canon PowerShot A85

REVIEW

In Canon's ever-growing arsenal of consumer-level compact digital cameras, the 4-megapixel Canon PowerShot A85 replaces the popular PowerShot A70. Unfortunately, the A85's images suffer from a lack of sharpness. If you can find it cheap enough (it usually sells for under $300) it's still a decent buy, but we recommend the Kodak EasyShare LS743 for its smaller size and sharper images.

Bottom Line

The A85's 4MP images are a bit soft on automatic settings, though it does offer plenty of manual controls. The A85 is a solid camera in terms of features, but we feel the Kodak EasyShare LS743 is a better buy, as it's smaller and offers better image quality.

Pros

Good exposure and colors. Strong flash illumination. Offers manual controls. Good battery life with included alkalines.

Cons

Images are a bit soft. Daylight shots are grainy in the shadows. Disappointing movie capabilities. You can't save custom settings.
