In terms of size, the M-Audio Studiophile DX4 (a repurposed bookshelf-speaker system) isn't well suited to the desktop, but you probably won't notice the forced fit once you hear what it can do. We know of no mid-priced computer speakers that can match the DX4's sonic detail, transparency, and silky high end.

Bottom Line

The Studiophile DX4 won't impress gamers who crave head-banging output levels and bombastic bass. But its extraordinarily detailed, lucid sound comes closer to meeting audiophile expectations than any desktop speakers we've heard in its price range.
