Tally T8016

Tally T8016

REVIEW

On its Web site, TallyGenicom bills the T8016 ($1,499 direct) as a best-in-class product. Whatever class the company has in mind, performance doesn't seem part of the criteria for "best." On our tests, the T8016 proved to be slow for a single-pass color laser, regardless of price. It does offer high-quality output, however, which gives at least some substance to the claim.

Bottom Line

The Tally T8016 has a lot in common with what were the best color lasers two or three years ago, with a 16-page-per-minute (ppm) engine for both color and monochrome. It's relatively slow for a single-pass color laser by today's standards, but it delivers high-quality output.

Pros

Scores well on output quality across the board, with ratings that range from good for graphics to excellent for text.

Cons

Slow performance for the price. Outdated, fully manual network setup requires substantial knowledge of network printers.
