The HP LaserJet 1160 ($329 direct) is relatively expensive for a personal monochrome laser printer, and it's slower than some of its less-expensive competitors. But in typical HP fashion, its overall output quality is a notch better than the competition's.

Bottom Line

The HP LaserJet 1160 takes up relatively little desk space, while offering near-excellent text quality and surprisingly good photo quality for a monochrome laser. Graphics fall a little short of good, but are still acceptable for most purposes. Performance, similarly, is less than impressive but still acceptable.

Cons
