HP Media Center Extender

REVIEW

Now that you've invested in a powerful computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, wouldn't it be great if you could enjoy its multimedia features in other rooms of your house? A Windows Media Center Extender (MCX) lets you do just that.

Bottom Line

True to its name, the HP Media Center Extender extends the multimedia capabilities of Media Center Edition host PCs to AV components elsewhere in your home, using either a wired or wireless network. It isn't inexpensive, but if you want to have a central repository for all your entertainment and have access to it in another room of the house, this MCX is the way to go.

Pros

Easy setup. Uses familiar Media Center Edition menus to give remote access to most media files on PC.

Cons

DVDs, CDs, some protected content, and HD content cannot be played remotely. A somewhat costly add-on.
