The Sony PictureStation DPP-FP30 is exactly what a no-frills dedicated photo printer ought to be. It's so easy to install and use that you can set it up and print without reading any instructions, and it prints directly from either a camera or a computer (but not from memory-card slots or other sources). The output is of true photo quality, and as icing on the cake, it looks more like a high-tech consumer toy than a computer printer.

Bottom Line

The Sony PictureStation DPP-FP30 has relatively expensive running costs at $0.56 to $0.63 for each 4-by-6 print. But it's easy to install and use, prints directly from PictBridge cameras and computers, and provides output that's as good as it gets.

Pros

Prints directly from PictBridge cameras. Extremely easy to set up and use.

Cons

No memory-card slots. Cost per page for 4-by-6-inch prints is about twice what it costs for digital prints at a typical photo or drug store.
